This is similar to the vocabulary game, but I changed it to help with grammar review. Again, students will be put into two equal teams.
1. Each team will receive a stack of cards with verbs on them (the two teams will each have the same cards). Students should pass out cards until they are gone.
2. The teacher will say a subject (I, you, etc.) and the verb in the appropriate tense.
example: I left (if teaching past tense)
3. The students with the verb to leave on their card will stand up.
4. The first student to stand up gets the chance to correctly translate the sentence into the target language.
5. If they cannot do it, the other team gets a chance.
6. Teams are disqualified if two students stand up with the same card.
Battleship (JP)
I use battleship to practice grammar and verb forms in my class. Students have to correctly conjugate the verb in order to make a hit.
I add dots to all of the corners on this sheet and add a few lines connecting dots. This is a small group activity. Student cannot finish off the square and earn the square without knowing the vocabulary by signing to the group members. Student with the highest number of squares wins.
In groups of two, students receive a sheet with verbs and a dice. Each number on the dice is assigned a different form (yo, tú,nosotros, etc.) They roll the dice. The first student to say it correctly does not have to write out the form. The other student must write it out correctly. They must check their completed forms with me when they are done.
Row (Team) Conjugation Practice (BS)
I use this to do a quick review of verb forms in any tense. It also works well to practice multiple tenses together. It is a fast paced competition that includes both teamwork for review and individual performance. The students really enjoy and benefit from it.
I play with groups of 4-5 students. Each group numbers off so there is a person assigned a number in each group. If one group has 4 and another has 3, one person will have two numbers. They have 30 seconds to practice a verb in a particular tense (6 forms in Spanish) in their groups. I call a number and that person from each group races to the board and writes the 6 forms in 30 seconds with no help from their group. They get one point for each correct answer. See White Board Activities under Vocab Strategies also.
